Ayurveda

Aligning Your True Nature with the Nature that surrounds you…

Ayurveda, meaning ‘the science of life’ is an ancient system of holistic healing that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It teaches that true health is not merely the absence of disease, but a dynamic state of harmony between body, mind, and spirit; a deep alignment with the rhythms of the natural world.

The Doshas
At the heart of Ayurveda are the three Doshas Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, which govern our physical and mental constitution. Each of us carries a unique combination of these energies, shaping everything from digestion and immunity, to emotions and thought patterns.

(Air & Ether)
Governs movement, communication, and the nervous system. When out of balance, it can lead to anxiety, restlessness, dryness, and digestive issues.

(Fire & Water)
Governs metabolism, intellect, and transformation. Imbalance may show as inflammation, irritability, perfectionism, and burnout.

(Earth & Water)
Governs structure, stability, and nourishment. When excessive, it can lead to stagnation, sluggishness, attachment, and emotional heaviness.

The Gunas
Beyond the Doshas, Ayurveda also teaches about the three Gunas, Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas, which define the qualities of the mind:

(Purity, Harmony, Goodness)

Represents clarity, wisdom, purity, and spiritual awakening.

(Activity, Passion, Drivenness)

Drives action, ambition, movement, and desire, but can also fuel restlessness.

(Inertia, Darkness, Ignorance)
Symbols:
Moon | Square | Colour: Black
Brings stillness, groundedness, and rest, but when excessive, creates inertia, confusion, and resistance.

Balancing these mental qualities is just as essential as balancing the body. A Sattvic mind shines with peace, joy, and discernment, naturally guiding us toward right action and deep inner freedom.

  • In Ayurveda, everything in existence is described through the lens of qualities, known as the 20 Gunas. These pairs of opposites – heavy/light, hot/cold, oily/dry – form the blueprint of all matter, action, and experience.

    The 20 Gunas are:

    Heavy / Light

    Slow / Dull / Sharp / Penetrating

    Cold / Hot

    Oily / Unctuous / Dry

    Smooth / Rough

    Dense / Solid / Liquid

    Soft / Hard

    Stable / Static / Mobile

    Subtle / Minute / Gross

    Sticky / Slimy / Clear / Non-slimy

  • Like increases like, opposites bring balance.

For example, if there is too much dryness (a Vata quality) in the body or mind, we introduce moisture, warmth, and nourishment.
If there is excessive heat (a Pitta quality), we bring in cooling, soothing elements.

Each Dosha has its own set of dominant Gunas:

Vata is dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, and mobile.

Pitta is hot, sharp, light, slightly oily, and fluid.

Kapha is heavy, cold, slow, smooth, oily, dense, and stable.

Understanding the Gunas gives us a powerful, intuitive way to work with imbalance through food, lifestyle, environment, and even relationships, restoring us gently back to our natural state of harmony.

Returning to Balance
By understanding your Prakruti (inherent constitution) and Vikruti (current state of imbalance), we can uncover the deeper patterns shaping your health and wellbeing. This is not only a path to physical healing, it’s a profound journey of self-awareness, self-empowerment, and spiritual awakening.

When we bring balance to the Doshas and cultivate Sattva within the mind, we naturally align with our highest self, stepping into greater clarity, purpose, resilience, and inner peace.

In the dance between nature within and the nature around us, we remember who we truly are.

Ayurvedic Diet & Lifestyle Consultations

By understanding yourself through the lens of Ayurveda, you gain the tools to work with your body’s natural intelligence, rather than against it. If you feel called to explore this path, I am here to guide and support you on your journey back to wholeness.

  • We live in a time when modern healthcare functions more as a "sick-care system," treating illness only once it has fully manifested rather than addressing the root causes of imbalance before disease takes hold. Many of us feel disconnected from our bodies, searching for temporary relief instead of embracing lasting healing.
Ayurveda reminds us that true health is not something to outsource; it is a lifelong relationship with ourselves. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, it provides a deeply personalised approach to well-being, teaching us how to make choices that support our unique nature. When we align with our constitution while addressing imbalances at their source, we reclaim sovereignty over our health.
